Wind Screen Install

Zero Gravity Double Bubble

Well I finally broke down and purchased a Zero Gravity double Bubble and this is how to install it.

1. Using a #2 phillips screw driver remove both of these screws on the inside of your fairing. There are two of them, one on each side.

2. Now roll the rubber cover up on the mirror. Repeat for the mirror on the other side.

3. Now fold down your mirror and using a 5mm allen remove the two bolts that hold the mirror in place and remove the mirror. Repeat for the other side.

4. Now using a 4mm allen, remove this cap bolt. Repeat for the other side.

In the picture above you will see a tab, this can be broken off very easy when you remove the V cover, that covers the edges of your wind screen. If you do break it, it will not cause any problems when you reinstall the V cover with out it.

5. Once all the screws, bolts and mirrors are removed, you can remove the V cover. Look for the bolt holes for the mirror mounts. As gently as possible and only as far as necessary, pry the V cover loose from above the mirror mount bolt holes. Pry out and down, the V cover need to clear the mirror mount bolt holes. There is a tab that hooks into the fairing at the bottom of the V cover under the mirror mount bolt holes. Once you get it loose do the same to the other side.

6. Now that the top is loose, you need to pry loose the point area of the V cover. In the picture above you will see a tab that pops in to a rubber grommet (see picture below). Very carefully pry the point area of the V cover down until it just comes loose. Once this is loose, very carefully slide the V cover down to release the tabs that are shown in the picture under step 4.

Here I am showing you the rubber grommet. This grommet can come out very easily and get lost.

7. Now remove these two screws at the bottom of the windscreen. These screws are threaded into rubber grommets that go through the holes in the bottom of the wind screen. The rubber grommets will have to be worked back into the identical holes of your new windscreen (or your old one if you are re-installing it).

In the picture above is the tab that has to be released next.

8. You are now ready to remove you old windscreen. What you have to do is press down in the middle of your old windscreen enough to release the pressure on tab. While you are holding down on the middle of the windscreen, pull out on the tab enough to release it. Now do the same for the other side  and remove your old windscreen.

In the picture above you will see the factory had rubber spacers that are very well glued into place. Since I did not have these, I use foam rubber as a spacer. See the next two pictures below. These will need to be adjusted so they are not visible once your windscreen is installed.

9. Now put your new windscreen in place and work the rubbers grommets back in to the correct mounting holes. Once this is done, lock in the upper mounting tabs the same way you took off the old windscreen. Now reinstall the screws back into the rubber grommets at the bottom of the screen. See picture below for the screws.

When you saw the rubbers spacers on the old screen they were on top and bottom. So for the top, I cut some small pieces of electrical tape and stacked four pieces together and placed them in the same location as the original windscreen.

10. Now I put a lite coat of grease on the tab so it will go in easier and then install the V cover in the reverse order I took it off. Make sure all the tabs are install correctly as you lock the V cover in place. In the picture below, shows the tab at the top of the V cover under the mirror mount bolt holes. Make sure this is in place as you lock the V cover down.

11. Now you can finish installing rest of the screws, bolts and mirrors in the reverse order that you took them off.

Done!  Enjoy!
